LTE: On Softball

First of all, a belated congratulations to the Curwensville and Philipsburg high school softball teams on their state championships last season. I enjoyed following them and greatly appreciate the high level of dedication it took to achieve their success, which is for the most part, a year-round dedication.

But for Clearfield area girls ages 8 to 12 who would like to play softball, but only as a seasonal, recreational, and more leisure time activity, there is an alternative.

There is a Clearfield girls slow-pitch league forming soon. This league lasts approximately 10 to 12 weeks including practices and games, and all games are local. The league switched two years ago from a fast-pitch to a slow-pitch format, and has been a resounding success, among both parents and players.

In slow-pitch, the pitching aspect is de-emphasized, while hitting, fielding, and base-running fundamentals, strategies, and situations are stressed. It is a fast paced game with lots of action for both fielders and hitters. No prior experience is necessary, and all skill levels can play and are encouraged to join. Signups will be April 21 and 22 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Driving park grove.
