Lady Tide Pick Up Third Straight, Conquer West Branch 10-0

CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Lady Tide picked up their third straight win Tuesday afternoon, knocking off visiting West Branch, 10-0, in a Moshannon Valley League (MVL) scuffle.

It was the second straight one hitter thrown by the Lady Tide. This time it was Holly Lansberry’s turn, as she picked up her third win against one loss. Lansberry struck out 12 along the way, and in fact struck out the first nine Lady Warriors she faced. The only hit the Tide ace surrendered was a fifth inning single by Keereea Veres that rolled down the first base line, hitting the bag and rolling toward the dugout.

Lady Warrior starting pitcher, Jada Larson, was keeping the visitors in the game as they only trailed 1-0 after three innings. Then the Tide, thanks to a bunch of errors, hits and hustle, picked up 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth. West Branch did bring in Sloan Sample to pitch in the bottom of the fifth. However, Curwensville wasn’t too kind to Sample in the sixth, as they picked up five runs to have the game called due to the 10 run rule.

West Branch had many problems on defense, as they committed a total of eight errors on the afternoon which enabled the Tide to put runs on the board.

Tide right fielder, Erin Bressler , had a solid night at the plate as she banged out three hits, driving in two teammates. Lansberry had two hits to help her own cause and Shannon McDonald smacked a triple. It was the second straight game that McDonald had a three bagger.

Lady Tide head coach, Allen Leigey, spoke of his team afterwards, “We are really pleased with the way we have been hitting. We need to keep that going.”

Curwensville is now 4-1 on the year and 2-0 in the MVL. The Warriors, under head coach Gary Miller, are 2-4 and 1-1 in the Moshannon Valley League.

The Lady Tide will be home once again Wednesday as they battle Punxsutawney in a 4:15 pm brawl. The Lady Chucks were just one of two teams to beat Curwensville in 2007, 2-0.

Leigey spoke about Wednesday’s match-up, “Now we will see if we have gotten any better since the Clearfield game because we are stepping up once again. This will be another measuring stick for us.”

NOTE: The Curwensville at Johnsonburg softball game that was cancelled on Saturday (4/12) will now be part of a doubleheader scheduled for Curwensville on Wednesday, April 30. The first game will start at 4 pm with the nightcap to follow shortly thereafter.
