ALTOONA – Sean Owen blitzed through the NW AAA Regional wrestling tournament, capping if off with a 10-3 win in the finals over Bald Eagle Area\’s Tim Watson. Owen ran his record to 37-1 and will enter the state tournament as one of the favorites to bring home the gold. Owen\’s toughest test came in the semifinals against P-O\’s Mike Horton. Horton pushed Owen to OT before falling 4-1.
Clearfield sent ten other wrestlers to regionals, but none were able to advance. Holden Lowe came closest, as he was able to reach the semifinals before losing a heartbreaking 2-1 decision to Bellefonte\’s Addison Snyder. In the consy semifinals Lowe once again faced nemesis David Whitaker of Dubois, and for the fourth time this season Whitaker came out on top, ending Lowe\’s season with a 2-1 win.
Clearfield claimed 10th place in the team race; Central Mountain won easily, beating Bellefonte by 16.5 points. Dubois took 6th and St. Mary\’s took 8th.
This weekend marked the end of the careers of three Bison seniors: Richie Queen, Kasey Casher, and Lee Zalno.
