Bison Grapplers Claim Third Place at Altoona Duals

ALTOONA – The Clearfield Bison Wrestling team went 4-1 on Saturday and recorded a strong third place showing at the Altoona Duals. The Bisons lost to powerful Central Mountain, 46-21, to open the tournament, but then ripped off four impressive wins in a row over Northeast (MD), Altoona, Delaware Valley, and Hanover. Clearfield finished with the second-best record but could only claim third place because they were in the same pool (A) as Central Mountain . Pool A was dominant in the final round, going 6-0 in head-to-head competition against pool B.

 

Individual standouts included Sean Owen, who went 5-0 with four falls and a forfeit. Owen is now 29-1 on the season. Holden Lowe also went 5-0, winning by technical fall, major decision, two decisions and a forfeit, running his record to 22-7.  Will Beauseigneur had a very strong day, going 4-0 via a forfeit, a fall, a major, and a decision. Beauseigneur raised his record to 6-13. Shawn Hall went 4-1, with three falls and a decision, and now stands at 22-11. Kodie Lowder also went 4-1 with 4 falls, the surprising 103-pounder is now 23-7 on the season. Shane Harper also deserves a mention, he picked up two wins and broke a long losing streak.

 

There was some bad news, however; Lee Zalno sprained his ankle and is questionable for this week\’s District Dual matches. Dan Henderlong injured his elbow, his status is unknown.

 

With their performance Clearfield improves to 11-4 on the season and will compete in the District Duals this week. The first match is Thursday at home against DuBois at 7PM, with the winner advancing to face top seed St. Mary\’s on Saturday.
