Hot Shooting Leads to Bison Cager Win

Brookville—Wednesday night against Punxsy Clearfield did not hit a single three pointer, but Friday night at Brookville they hit four in the first quarter alone.

Clearfield used their hot shooting early to hold off Brookville and come away with a 67-50 victory in District 9 League action.

In the first quarter the Bisons came out firing on all cylinders and looked as if they would be unstoppable all night long.  Clearfield’s hot start would be much in part due to the stellar play of guards Matt Shiner and Jarrin Campman who accounted for more than half of the Bisons points on the night scoring 27 and 16 points respectively. Shiner would score 10 of those points in the first period.  Parker Herrington, Todd Hryn, and Drew Hipps would also chip in with baskets in the quarter and put the Bisons up 22-14 at the end of the first quarter.

“Matt and Jarrin came out shooting the ball very well tonight.  We got a lot of good looks tonight on fastbreaks.  Cruise Kerr also gave us good minutes off the bench and brought us a lot of energy, “commented Coach Campman.

In the second quarter the Bisons struggled to score the way they did in the first period as a four minute scoring drought would carry over from the end of the first quarter into the beginning of the second.  Clearfield would get back on the board 2 minutes into the second period with a three pointer from Campman who would hit three triples in the quarter.  Clearfield would go up 38-26 at the half.

Clearfield would come out a little cooled off and lackadaisical on defense as they would allow Brookville to claw their way back into the game and cut the lead to single digits midway through the third before Shiner would hit two big threes to closeout the quarter and put the Bisons up 51-44 at the end of the third period.

“We didn’t play great defense tonight, but we were able to shoot the ball well.  We were able to wear them down defensively and keep the lead,” said Campman.

In the fourth quarter the Bisons would stiffen up their play and shut down the Brookville offense as they would pull away late with baskets by Shiner and Hryn on their way to the victory.  The win keeps them steady as the number two spot in the District 9 AAA league.

The Bisons will be back in action Tuesday night when they take on Elk County at home in a crucial league game.
