DUBOIS – Following a much deserved holiday break, the Penn State DuBois Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams are set to resume their seasons in January. When both teams hit the hardwood again, they’ll know they’re ranked among the best in the nation in their division.
In USCAA national polls, the Penn State DuBois Nittany Lions are ranked sixth in the nation for USCAA Division II basketball with a 4 and 1 conference record. The Penn State DuBois Lady Lions continue to move up the polls as well, to the number 17 spot in the nation.
“Our guys have worked hard and practiced over the break, and everyone is excited to get out and play again,” said the men’s Head Coach, David Bennett. “It’s been almost a month since our last game and it should be an exciting run to reach our post-season goals.”
Ladies coach, Pat Lewis is also looking forward to going beyond the regular season.
“With our early season wins, we have a 3-2 conference record, so we’re in a position for a possible playoff spot, which would be a fantastic accomplishment for a first year program,” Lewis said.
Both coaches realize the remainder of the season will take hard work and dedication. Bennett noted that an upcoming game against Penn State New Kensington will challenge his team to do their best. He said, “New Kensington is ranked third in the USCAA and they are undefeated in our conference (7-2 Overall, 6-0 PSUAC). It should be a big game, and certainly one worth watching from the stands.”
Lewis remarked, “Our opponents will be a little more aware of our early success and I am sure they will be prepared. In January, we play the two teams that fought for the championship last year. It should be an interesting second half of the season.\”
Bennett and the Penn State DuBois Nittany Lions are back in action on Wednesday, January 9, at 7:00 pm in the Penn State DuBois Gymnasium as they host Mansfield University. A double-header is scheduled for January 12, as the Lady Lions host Penn State New Kensington at 1:00 p.m.
