Campus Corner: Pataky, Keane Finish Second at Wilkes Open

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Two former Clearfield Area High School wrestlers, Penn State 125-pounder Brad Pataky of Clearfield and Pitt-Johnstown 165-pounder Kyle Keane of Bradford, lost in the finals of the 2007 Wilkes Open on Friday.
 
Pataky, wrestling unattached, was nipped 4-3 by 20th-ranked Steve Mytych (unattached) of Drexel after rolling to four victories.
 
The Olympic red-shirt opened with an 18-4 major decision against Silas Morris (unattached) of Nassau and with 15-0 technical falls over Jake Bucha of Franklin & Marshall and Ty Kanouff (unattached) of Team Kanouff to breeze into the semifinals.
 
Pataky then posted a 10-4 win over Pitt-Johnstown\’s Derrek Bosso, a 2007 All-American who currently is ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II. Bosso bounced back to claim third place in the 28-wrestler bracket.
 
In November, Pataky competed in two freestyle events, placing sixth in the Sunkist Open and fourth in the New York Athletic Club Open, where he finished 4-2 with a big 4-3, 8-6 win over 2006 NCAA champion Joe Dubuque of Indiana and a narrow 1-0, 1-0 loss to former Arizona State All-American Danny Felix.
 
Keane improved his red-shirt sophomore season record to 12-4 with a 3-1 effort at the Wilkes Open.
 
He bested Penn State\’s Mike Lorenzo 8-1, Edinboro\’s Chris Hrunka 10-0 and Nassau\’s Dan Daddino 5-2 before losing 3-0 to Matt Pletcher (unattached) of Rutgers.
 
Pletcher also edged Keane 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the Nittany Lion Open at Penn State in early December.

ADA, Ohio – Lycoming College freshman Cody Billotte (Frenchville, Clearfield Area High School) went 0-2 at the Ohio Northern University Wrestling Invitational on Dec. 15.
 
The Warriors\’ No. 2 team 125-pounder was blanked  7-0 by Martin Cruz of the Heidelberg (Ind.) No. 5 team and pinned in 1:59 by Josh Mollica of the Waynesburg No. 1 team.
 
Most of the 18 teams in the tourney split their squads into multiple lineups.

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Clearfield native Ruth Williamson  (State College, DuBois Central Catholic High School) scored five points, grabbed two rebounds and one assist in nine minutes as the Susquehanna University women\’s basketball team defeated Purchase (N.Y.) College 68-55 Sunday at the Grand Canyon Classic.
 
On Saturday, the senior co-captain had seven points and two rebounds in 15 minutes of the Crusaders\’ 52-51 loss to the College of Staten Island (N.Y.).
 
In nine games, Williamson has scored 59 points, including eight three-pointers, to go with 18 rebounds, five assists, seven steals and five blocked shots.
 
Still not 100 percent after undergoing knee surgery in the off season, the 5-8 guard is averaging only 13.7 minutes a game.
 
Susquehanna has a 7-4 record.
