Bisons Lose Heartbreaker

Clearfield- If you have followed Clearfield Basketball over the past few seasons under Coach Forrest Campman, you have learned luck is rarely on the Bisons side. Tonight there was luck, unfortunately it was bad luck. Campman doesn’t seem to think it has to do with luck, but actually has to do with not closing out games, “What happens is when you don’t win the game where it should have been won easier throughout the game it’s Murphy’s Law, they are going to make those game winning shots when they shouldn’t have even had the chance. That kid that hit the game winner could have thrown it behind his head and it would have went in.”

Clearfield held leads as big as 9 points deep into the 3rd quarter, but in the closing minute of the 3rd quarter Central Mountain had back to back steals off of Clearfield guards to make it a 2 pt game.

As the 4th quarter progressed the Wildcats built on their lead, at times having it a 9pts at 1 point, but the young Bisons refused to give up. Jarrin Campman hit a 3 pointer then drove to the basket for a tough score; Hipps was then fouled and made 2 freethrows to put Clearfield up 1 with a minute to play.

Clearfield was able to come up with a lose ball at the opposite end of the court and Campman was intentionally fouled, but was unable to convert the free throws. Clearfield was able to get the ball off of the missed foul shot, and Campman was fouled again and converted 1 of 2 free throws to put Clearfield up 2 with 10 seconds to play.

Central Mountain called a timeout to advance the ball and inbounded to guard Zach Wert, the game high scorer with 19 points, who chucked up a 3-pointer from NBA range and as the clock hit 0 the ball went threw the hoop to give Central Mountain the 1 point victory.

Clearfield was led by Matt Shiner and Jarrin Campman who scored 15 and 12 points respectively.

According to Campman both those players were outplayed by another teammate, “Cruise Kerr played well, but I probobaly didn’t play him as much as I should have. I need to rectify that and make sure I play Cruise more, because he is the only player who has done what I expect out of him.”

Campman sees one glaring problem with his team, “ We are stupid, we are just very stupid basketball wise.”

Clearfield better hope they get smart soon, because they welcome District 9 rival Punxy to Arthur J. Weiss Gymnasium on Friday December 7 at 7 p.m.
