CLEARFIELD – Batter up!
More than 50 former Clearfield Area High School players already have signed up to display their hitting prowess again in the Third Annual Bison Baseball Alumni Games at the Lawrence Township Rec Park Field Saturday, and the number is expected to grow by the time participants report at 10:30 a.m. for team assignments.
What started out to be an afternoon and evening that was about \”creating new memories and enhancing old ones\” as a fund-raiser for the CAHS baseball team has evolved into a fun-filled reunion weekend.
Players who haven\’t picked up bats since the 2006 game, or longer, will have the opportunity take some swings during batting practice Friday at 6 p.m. A draft session social will follow at approximately 8 o\’clock at the former Adventure Park, at which time game shirts and caps will be distributed.
For former Bison sluggers and those who think they can hit the ball over the fence, home run derbies have been added as a new feature this year. The Old-Timers Home Run Derby is set for 11 a.m., but there\’s no truth to the rumor second base will be used as home plate. The Youngsters Home Run Derby will begin at 2 p.m.
Umpires will holler \”Play ball!\” at 11:45 a.m. for the Old-Timers Alumni Game, which has two-hour time limit, and 2:30 p.m. for the Youngsters Alumni Game.
Another highlight Saturday will be special recognition for the Bisons\’ 1982 and 1987 District 9 championship teams on the milestone anniversaries of their achievements.
The alumni games committee requests all participants, whether playing or attending as spectators, be at the field by 11:30 a.m. for pictures.
Reminiscing will continue during a dinner at the former Adventure Park approximately 30 to 60 minutes after the final out in the Youngsters Alumni Game.
