STRONGSTOWN, PA – Imler’s Poultry sponsored the racing action Friday night at Dog Hollow Speedway and while there were no new winners, the repeat winners had a tough time getting to victory lane.
Winners included Randy Smithley of Bolivar in the Townsend Gas and Oil Late Models; Dave Padula of Greencastle in the Stoystown Auto Wreckers Fastrak Late Models; Mike Laughard of Twin Rocks in the Hugill Sales and Service Street Stocks; John Mazey of Bolivar in the Brush Valley Tire Pure Stocks and Mark Faught in the Texas Auto Ranch Four Cylinder Sidewinders.
Randy Smithley and Darrell Dick led the late models to the start with Smithley taking the lead and Dick settling into second with Rance Garlock third. As the race continued, Dick was trying to find any way possible past the leader, but Smithley was holding him off each lap. As a few cautions waved, Dick would try the outside of Smithley but Smithley wanted that piece of real estate and Dick had to back off. As the race drew on, Dick’s tires went away as Scott Stein moved into second, but Dick fought back and again took over second, but with two laps left Stein again took the runner up spot and finished there. The top five were: Smithley, Stein, Dick, Brian Smith and Garlock. Heat wins went to Randy Smithley and Darrell Dick.
Chad Wilds and Chris Angelicchio led the Fastrak Late Models to the green flag with Wilds leading the opening lap. Dave Padula took the lead by the second lap and held off all challengers the rest of the way. At the waving of Bob Sullingers checkered flag it was Padula taking the win with Wilds, Angelicchio, Chris Knuth and Doug Flick. Dave Padula won the heat.
The street stock feature wasn’t decided until the final two feet, as Jeff Sweeney and Denny Keener led the field to the green with Sweeney taking the lead. As he led the race John Kinsey moved to the outside of him with Mike Laughard inside the second row and Keener on the outside. As the top four raced under the proverbial blanket Sweeney was still leading at the line each lap. Then on lap 13 Kinsey clipped a tire in turn one and slowed, losing some ground and on that lap Laughard took the lead for one lap.
Sweeney fought back as the yellow waved tightening the field. Sweeney led with Laughard along side for the final two laps, they continued to run door-to-door, bumping each other in the turns, but still racing hard for the win. As the exited turn four on the final lap and headed for the checkered flag, they were still side-by-side, with Laughard on the outside and Sweeney on the inside, still touching, but it was Laughard who pulled off the win by a few inches over Sweeney. Tyler Hite, Kinsey and Todd Weiner completed the top five. Heat wins went to Mike Laughard and John Kinsey. Denny Keener was originally third, but was disqualified after the race for a rules infraction.
The pure stock feature saw Rich Powell and Matt Summers on the front row with Powell taking the lead and Sam McAdams moving to second. McAdams then took the lead on lap three and was setting the pace, with Powell second and John Mazey third. Mazey moved to second on lap eight and too the lead on lap 10. The race was then Mazey’s with Tim Good moving to second and trying to get the upper hand, but it was Mazey’s race to win or lose and he won. At the line to top five were Mazey, Good, Powell, Marshall Detwiler and Summers. Hear wins went to Matt Summers and Tim Laughard.
Mark Faught led 24 fellow racers to the start in the four cylinder sidewinders with Jon Forshey right along side. Faught took the lead and held off the efforts of Mark Maglett and Scott Shirk the whole distance. He didn’t have an easy win as the to three were all over him, but Faught held on to get the victory over Maglet, Shirk, Dan Adams and Chris Yoder. Heat wins were split between Mark Faught, Scott Shirk and Chris Yoder.
DOG TRAX: There were 85 cars in the pits including 17 late models, 7 Fastrak Late Models, 16 street stocks, 18 pure stocks and 27 four cylinder sidewinders…The points are close in several divisions and they come to an end this coming Friday night with the racing action sponsored by First Commonwealth Bank.
