Little, Morgan and Crawford Claim Mick Orsich Memorial Wins at Hummingbird

Reynoldsville (September 2)—The second half of the 3rd annual Mick Orsich memorial races were run Sunday evening at Hummingbird Speedway with Gary Little of Clearfield, Ralph Morgan, Jr., of Mount Union, and Brian Crawford of Punxsutawney taking home the wins.

The 30-lap Prontock Beer Distributors street stocks had Fuzzy Fields and Bob Rosman on the starting front row. After two complete restarts, Fields took the early lead and was pulling away from the field. Little looked to make the pass for the lead of Fields after a lap 3 restart, but couldn’t get by. Fields continued to stretch out his lead, but on lap 9, the steering in his car broke and he had to pit for repairs. Little inherited the lead with Bob Rosman in close pursuit. Little continued to lead through the midway mark with Rosman, Denny Curry, Jr., Dan Gill, and Bill Henney rounding out the top five. Little stretched out his lead on Rosman, but saw it go by the way side as a caution flew on lap 25 for a spinning car. Little held the lead on the restart with Curry pressuring Rosman for second. Curry was able to get by Rosman for second, but ran out of laps as Little went on to take his second straight memorial win, and his fourth win of the year at the speedway. Little, Rosman, Fields, Joe Kot, and Dustin Michuck won the heats while Henney claimed the consy win.

Christopher Semple and Don Henry led the field of IC Light Beer four-cylinders trackside for their 15-lap main. Semple grabbed the early lead and ran side by side with Morgan before Morgan took over the top spot on lap 3. Morgan continued to lead halfway in with Semple, Kyle Wiser, Henry, and George Bailey trying to track him down. After a late race caution, the top four of Morgan, Semple, Wiser, and Henry pulled away from the rest of the field. Morgan was able to gain some breathing room late as Semple and Wiser battled side by side for second. In the end it was Morgan claiming his first win at the speedway, and he became the thirteenth different winner in the division this season. Morgan, Semple, and Henry won the heats.

The 15-lap front wheel drive four-cylinders had Kenny White and Todd English leading the field to the opening green flag. English grabbed the early lead with White, Shawn Fedder, and Ben Smith battling closely for second. Numerous cautions slowed the early stages with English still holding the lead. English’s good run came to an end on lap 6 when something broke in the right front of his car. Shawn Fedder inherited the lead and held it through the midway point with Smith, Crawford, Mike Lucas, and Darren Lucas rounding out the top five. Crawford started to find some bite on the high line as he overtook Fedder for the lead on lap 11. A caution flew on lap 12 when Joe Nelson spun his car. During the caution the red flag was displayed as Steven Bouch’s car erupted into flames. Bouch climbed from his car unhurt. When racing resumed, Crawford still held the lead with Smith and Fedder battling side by side for second. The race came to a halt on lap 13 when Mike Lucas clipped as infield tire and was hit broadside by Jody Frantz. Frantz was uninjured, but Lucas had to be extricated from his car by Falls Creek Volunteer Fire personnel, and then was then airlifted to an undisclosed hospital. The race was called official with Crawford being named the winner. The win was Crawford’s first of his career. White, English, M. Lucas, and Fedder won the preliminaries.
