Reynoldsville —Mike Anderson of State College and Todd English of Clearfield added their names to the growing list of winners this season at Hummingbird Speedway. Other winners Saturday evening included Luke Hoffner of Turbotville, Dan Smeal of Houtzdale, and Brian Rhed of Brockport.
Anderson and Randy Albert led the field of IC Light Beer four-cylinders trackside for their 15-lap feature. Anderson got the early jump on the field with George Bailey keeping things close. Bailey tried the outside line and ran side by side with Anderson for a number of laps with Bailey briefly taking the lead on lap 6. Anderson retook the lead on lap 7 and continued his battle with Bailey through the midway mark with Lester Hudson, Tim Steis, and Alan Barnett closing the gap. The red flag flew on lap 12 when Aaron Henry’s engine exploded into flames. Henry was uninjured. After a lap 13 caution, Bailey again used the high line to get by Anderson, but Anderson had enough to hold off Bailey by a car length for the win. With the win, Anderson became the twelfth different winner in the division this season. Hudson, Ken Erskine, and Don Henry won the heats.
The 20-lap Prontock Beer Distributors street stock feature was led trackside by Bob Rosman and Tom Slack. Rosman grabbed the early lead with Slack and Jason Peters in close tow. Peters looked to the inside of Slack for second and brought Smeal along for third place. The top three ran close at the midway mark with Bill Huntington and Slack running side by side for fourth. Smeal kept the pressure on Rosman, and made the pass for the lead on lap 17. The race saw two attempts at green-white-checkered finishes with Smeal able to hold off Rosman for his fourth win of the year. Smeal, Huntington, and Dan Gill copped the heat race wins.
The 25-lap Brookville Wood Products limited late model feature was next on the speedway with Levi Ardery and Dave Shagla, Jr. showing the way. Ardery took the early lead with Eric Moore and Shagla battling side by side for second. Chris Farrell found the high line to his liking as he overtook Hoffner and Moore on lap 5, and took second away from Shagla on the next lap. Farrell was able to take the lead away from Ardery on lap 10 with Hoffner moving into second as the pair pulled away from the field. Farrell maintained a slight advantage over Hoffner at the halfway mark with Ardery, Shagla, and Bob McMillen trying to close the gap. Farrell and Hoffner continued their side-by-side battle for a number of laps before Hoffner wrestled the lead away from Farrell on lap 18. Farrell fought back and retook the lead on lap 19. After a lap 22 caution, the pair continued to fight it out with Hoffner running low and Farrell high. Hoffner retook the lead on lap 24 when Farrell didn’t get the run off of turn four that he had been getting letting Hoffner go by for the lead and his sixth win of the season at the track. Hoffner, Farrell, and John Chesnalavich, Jr. won the heats.
The 15-lap Miller Brothers Furniture/By The Room Furniture pure stocks were next on the speedway with Josh Lindenmuth and Mike Donahue on the starting front row. Lindenmuth led the first circuit before he was overtaken by Donahue on lap 2. Donahue continued to lead with Rhed and Jason Murray closing the gap. The top three pulled away from the field with Jason Bainey and Kevin Chase working their way to the leaders. Rhed worked his way beside Donahue as the pair ran side by side for a number of laps with Rhed taking the lead on lap 12. Donahue took one last shot at Rhed on the final turn, but looped his car around letting Rhed go on for his speedway leading seventh win. Lindenmuth and Donahue won the heats.
Jessica Brooks and English led a full field of front wheel drive four-cylinders trackside for their 12-lap main. Brooks led the first lap before being overtaken by English on the next lap. English, Terry Borden, Brooks, and Steven Cook hooked up in a good battle for the lead as they pulled away from the field. English stretched his lead at the midway point with Borden, Cook, Aaron Luzier, and Brooks trying to track him down. English held a comfortable lead the rest of the way as he won by four car lengths to pick up his first career win at the speedway. English, Brooks, Chris Woodel, and Ben Smith won the heats while Dustin Fields took the consy win.
SPEEDWAY NOTES: There were 108 cars in the pits this evening including 19 limited lates, 23 street stocks, 19 four-cylinders, 14 pure stocks, and 33 front wheel drive four-cylinders. Saturday is season championship night with point champions being crowned. All five divisions will be running for double points. It will also be Eric McGarvey memorial night with trophies being sponsored by the McGarvey family. Gates open at 4:30pm with racing at 7.
