More Repeat Winners Find Dog Hollow Victory Lane

STRONGSTOWN, PA – Randy Smithley (Townsend Gas and Oil Late Models), Dave Padula (Stoystown Auto Wreckers Fastrak Late Models), Jeff Sweeney (Hugill Sales and Service Street Stocks), Tim Good (Brush Valley Tire Pure Stocks) and Virgil Small (Texas Auto Ranch Four Cylinder Sidewinders) all took home a Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Trophy on Friday night and all picked up repeat feature wins.

Bolivar’s Randy Smithley and Heilwood’s Rudy Bassaro led the late model feature to the start with Smithley taking the lead and setting the pace. Smithley was pulling away from the field with Bernie Whiteford and Dan Lee in hot pursuit. The top three were pulling away when 12th place starter Clate Copeman moved into the top five by passing Bassaro on lap five.

Copeman was headed to the front and a caution tightened the field. On lap 11 Copeman took second and set his sights on leader Smithley, but Smithley was in the groove and the only way Copeman was getting by was if Smithley made a mistake, but he was flawless on this night, taking his third win of the season. Copeman, Whiteford, Lee and Bill Krause completed the top five. Heat wins were split between Clate Copeman and Bernie Whiteford.

It looked as though Dan Angelicchio had the Fastrak Late Model feature in the bag, as he took the lead at the start and was setting the pace. While he led, the battle for second was heating up between Dave Padula and Paul Michny. As the race was slowed on lap five for debris the field was tightened up.

Angelicchio was still leading, but the handling appeared to go away on the #14 as he pushed high in the third and four turns and both Padula and Michny took advantage and took the lead with an inside pass. The front two continued to lead with JR Wright entering the mix late in the race, but when the checkered flag waved it was Padula with the win ahead of Michny, Wright, Angelicchio and Floyd Kline completing the top five. Dan Angelichhio took the heat win.

From the drop of the green to the waving of the checkered the street stock feature was exciting with John Kinsey and Mike Laughard on the front row. Lap after lap the lead changed, but at the line each lap, it was Kinsey leading, for a while. The top four of Kinsey, Laughard, Jeff Sweeney and Josh Jacoby were door-to-door and bumper-to-bumper the entire 15 laps, with Sweeney edging out in front on lap 11, then on lap 12 it was Kinsey out front again.
On lap 13 the top four encountered lapped traffic and was trying to thread the needle between the slower cars. It was Sweeney who made a path first and took the lead with two laps left. At the finish it was Sweeney ahead of Kinsey, Laughard, Jacoby and Ray Charles. Jeff Sweeney and John Kinsey won the heats.

Marshall Detwiler and Tim Good led the pure stocks to the green and Detwiler took the lead with Good, Justin Queen, Tim Laughard and Scott Lorenzo rounding out the top five.

A caution on lap five sent Laughard to the rear and regrouped the field. On the restart Detwiler went over the edge of the backstretch and lost several positions, giving the lead to Good. Good was able to hold off the efforts of John Mazey and Detwiler who battled back along with Laughard who came from the rear. At the finish it was Good taking the win over Mazey, Laughard, Lorenzo and Queen. Heat wins were split between Tim Good and Tim Laughard.

Paul Little and Chris Yoder led the four cylinders to the start and it took three tries to get the show underway, once the green fell and stayed out it was Yoder taking the lead. He led until lap seven when Virgil Small took the lead, but here came Chris Booher from 11th. Booher tried the outside several laps and finally made it work on the final lap. The finish at the line was Booher, Small, Scott Shirk, Ray Hickok Jr., and Yoder, but in a post race tech, Booher and Hickok were found to be illegal. The revised top five were: Small, Shirk, Yoder, Joe Petyak and Dan Adams. Heat wins went to Virgil Small, Chris Yoder and Mark Maglet.
