CURWENSVILLE – The VFW Teener Area VI 15-and-16 Tournament game between Punxsutawney and Curwensville was halted in the top of the third inning because of rain and then suspended 10 minutes later Thursday evening at the Curwensville Area High School Field.
Punxsy (0-1), leading 2-0, will be batting with a runner on first base and no outs when the game is resumed Friday at 5 p.m.
Defensive lapses by Curwensville helped the visitors score both runs in the second frame.
After Wes McGarry retired the first five batters, Chase Tibbs walked, reached second on an error and scored on Dane Kotas\’ ground single into right field. Kotas stole second and continued around the sacks on two throwing errors.
Curwensville (1-0) had threatened in the first inning. Ben McGary singled to right and Sam Gardner wound up with a double when his fly ball to center was misjudged. Nick Redden drew a two-out walk to load the bases, but Tommy Bush registered the second of his four strikeouts to keep the hosts off the scoreboard.
