Clearfield LL 11 Year-old All-stars Stay Alive with 11-7 Victory

LEWISTOWN – Locked in a 6-6 tie with host Mifflin County, the Clearfield Little League 10-and-11 All-Stars scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning for an 11-7 win in District 5 Tournament elimination bracket quarterfinal action Saturday evening.
 
Clearfield will take its 2-1 record on the road again Monday to play Tri-County in the elimination bracket semifinal at Stormstown at 6 p.m.
 
Trailing 3-0 going to the top of the fourth inning, Clearfield erupted for six runs.
 
Two-run doubles by Derek Hryn and Christian Lezzer highlighted the rally. Andy Brown\’s forceout and Corey Root\’s single drove in the other runs.
 
In the sixth, Matt Kushner singled, stole second base and scored on Lezzer\’s third hit. Kelton Rishel followed with an RBI-single for what proved to be the game-winning hit. With the bases loaded, Brown walked, Hunter Keith singled and Root walked for RBIs.
 
Hryn and Rishel had two hits apiece.
 
Mike Beck was the winning pitcher in relief of Lezzer, who gave up four hits, four walks and four runs in four innings. Beck allowed three hits, two walks and three runs in two innings. They had three strikeouts apiece.
