Reynoldsville—After a one-week layoff due to rain, Hummingbird Speedway got back to racing action Saturday evening with Dave Shagla, Jr. of Sugar Grove, Fuzzy Fields and Brian Rhed of Brockport, Alan Barnett of Philipsburg, and Dave Kohler of DuBois scoring their first wins of the young campaign.
The IC Light Beer four-cylinders led off the feature action with Barnett and Orin Taylor showing the way. Barnett took the opening lead of the 15-lap main, and held it through a number of minor cautions as Taylor and Kyle Parson battled for second. Barnett maintained the lead through the midway point with Taylor, Cooter Wolfe, Bill McMillen, and Ken Erskine trying to close the gap. Barnett stretched his lead late, but saw it go by the way side as Matt Stahlman looped his car around in turn two with one lap to go. The caution set up a green, white, checkered finish, with Barnett getting a strong restart, and easy win at the finish line. Barnett, Taylor, and Parson won the heats.
The 20-lap Prontock Beer Distributors street stock feature was next on the track with Toby Saline and Jamie Price making up the starting front row. After a complete restart, Price led the first lap, only to be overtaken by Bob Rosman on lap 2. Fields made his rush towards the front as he took over the top spot on lap 4. Fields started to add to his lead midway into the race with Rosman, Saline, Dan Smeal, and Bill Huntington completing the top five. Fields opened up his lead once again after a lap 12 caution with Rosman, Smeal, and Huntington battling hard for second. But in the end, it was all Fields as he took the checkered flag. Gary Little and Smeal copped the heats. Levi Ardery and Pete Alspaugh led the field of Brookville Wood Products limited late models trackside for their 25-lap feature event. After two complete restarts, Dwayne Brooks took the early lead with Shagla putting on heavy pressure for the pass. Shagla wasted little time as he got under Brooks for the lead on the next lap. Shagla added to his lead as Brooks and Eric Moore battled side by side for second. Shagla continued to lead at the midway point with Moore, Brooks, Bob McMillen, and Pete Alspaugh trying to catch him. A late race caution brought the field back to Shagla, but Shagla was too strong as he went on for the win. Brooks, Alspaugh, and Ardery won the heats.
The 15-lap Miller Brothers Furniture/By The Room Furniture pure stock feature was next on the speedway with Pete Mackie and Rob Molnar on the starting front row. Rhed and Mackie ran side by side for the first lap with Rhed leading by a bumper at the line. After two minor caution periods, Rhed held the lead with Jason Bainey closing in quickly. Rhed continue to lead at the halfway mark with Bainey, Mackie, Josh Lindenmuth, and Jeff Krach completing the top five. Rhed was able to hold Bainey at bay in the final laps to take a hard fought win. Rhed and Bainey took the heat race wins. The 12-lap front wheel drive four-cylinders were next on the speedway with Kohler and Chuck Erskine leading the field. Kohler led the first lap and was getting a challenge by Jerry Walls as the pair pulled away from the field. The top two ran that way at the midway point with Erskine, John Spellen, and Chris Woodel trying to close the gap. Kohler was able to pull away late to take the win. Dustin Fields and Ben Smith took the heat race wins.
