Lady Tide Defeat Glendale 9-1

CURWENSVILLE—-The Lady Tide of Curwensville were back in action at home Monday afternoon against the visiting Glendale Lady Vikings. Sophomore Holly Lansberry scattered six hits while striking out 16 as the Tide won 9-1. Curwensville is now 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in Moshannon Valley League play with the win. With the loss Glendale drops to 1-3 on the year behind head coach Pat Pino.

Curwensville jumped out to a two nothing lead after one as Lansberry and Dani Struble lead off with singles and eventually scored to put the Lady Tide out in front. Curwensville scored 4 times in the second to take a 6-0 lead and looked headed toward perhaps a 15 or 10 run rule easy victory but Glendale held tight behind pitcher Kayla Miles. Miles did take the loss in giving up 9 hits and 4 walks with some shaky defense behind her. The Tide only scored three more times after the second inning with the highlight being catcher Dana Johnson’s sixth inning blast that cleared the left center field fence by plenty. On the night Johnson picked up three RBI’s. Curwensville head coach Allen Leigey also felt the homer by Johnson was huge for his senior catcher, “ Dana’s home run is great for her confidence with all the hard work she puts into her game.” Johnson and Lansberry each had three hits to boost the offense for the Lady Tide.

Glendale picked up their lone run in the top of the seventh as Brittany Boulton lead off with a double and later came around to cross the plate. Katee Budzinski and Amanda Westover each had two hits for the Lady Vikings.

Coach Leigey summed up the win by saying, “ I thought we looked fairly good for this being only our second time out. We didn’t have that many opportunities on defense with Lansberry striking out 16 and that’s very good.” Leigey also added, “ We need to get better with Ridgway next on our schedule but overall I was very happy with today’s effort.”

Curwensville is scheduled to play Ridgway on Wednesday at home with a 4:15 pm start.
