CLEARFIELD – $1 million on funding will be handed out to Clearfield County municipalities through Growing Greener II after Tuesday’s county commissioners’ meeting. These funds came to Clearfield County through a 2005 voter referendum and all leverage funds from other sources.
Coalport Borough received $123,000 for its flood project. The money will leverage more than $5 million more and completely fund the project. This project has been in the works since 1972 and will also aid an adjacent section of Beccaria Township.
The county received seven applications amounting to more than $2 million. Clearfield County’s money was able to fund, at least partially, six of them.
The City of DuBois received $250,000 to complete the final phase of the brewery complex.
“The county has been very involved with this project form the beginning,” said Mike Lytle, commissioner. “I think this is a good project in the city.”
The Clearfield County Conservation District received $173,768 to be utilized by the Morgan Run Watershed group and Clearfield Creek Watershed Association to mitigate past mining effects in the Morgan Run watershed. Grampian Borough received $193,510 for a stream stabilization project to Davis Run. Sandy Township was awarded $150,000 to improve water quality in a segment of Sandy Lick Creek. Clearfield Borough was awarded $109,722 for sidewalk improvements and lighting in the downtown area.
Clearfield County received one application that was not funded. Curwensville Borough requested $615,000 to construct a road from the industrial park to a nearby state roadway. The application was denied because road construction is not an acceptable use for Growing Greener II funds.
In May 2005, Pennsylvania voters approved a $625 million bond issue. Clearfield County’s share of that money was $1 million.
