Playoff Previews: Bison Basketball Squads Hit the Road Tuesday

The Clearfield boys and girls basketball teams are quite happy with
their standing heading into the District 9 Class AAA playoffs. The
only thing that could make them happier is claiming district titles
later this week.

The teams will play as part of a twin bill at Bradford Area High
School on Tuesday. The Lady Bisons will serve as the opening act and
will take on second-seeded Bradford at 6 p.m. The Bisons then face
their district foe and second seed Bradford in the night cap at 7:30
p.m.

Each team captured the third seed in the tournament; but seeds mean
nothing as each team split with its playoff opponent during the
regular season.

The Lady Bisons finished with an overall record of 14-8 and
finished with a 7-5 mark in district play. The winner will face
top-seeded Punxsutawney on Friday, March 3 at Clarion University\’s
Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium. Tip-off time will be announced later
this week. Punxsutawney finished the second with an 18-5 mark and was
11-1 in District 9 League play – its only loss coming at the hands of
Bradford.

The teams split this season with each team winning on its own
floor. Clearfield scored a 53-50 victory on January 5 over the Lady
Owls. Bradford returned the favor on Groundhog\’s Day with a 55-43
beating of the Lady Bisons in Bradford.

On the boys side, Clearfield captured the third seed in the
tournament by finishing with a 15-9 mark. The Bisons finished 7-5 in
District 9 League play. Both teams won on their home floor as the
teams split during the regular season. Clearfield scored an overtime
48-47 victory over the Owls on February 2 at Arthur J. Weiss
Gymnasium, while Bradford won a January 5 meeting by a score of 50-48
in Bradford.

The winner will play top-seeded St. Marys on Friday, March 3 at 7
p.m. at Tippin Gym. St. Marys finished the season with a 15-9 record
and was 9-3 in league play.
