Basketball Game Argument Breaks out at Moshannon Valley Correctional Center

PHILIPSBURG – Tuesday afternoon, GantDaily learned of an incident at the Moshannon Valley Correctional Center in Philipsburg.

The information that follows was released by Cornell Companies Tuesday evening.

In response to inquiries from the media regarding a disturbance at the Moshannon Valley Correctional Center, Cornell Companies (Tuesday) issued the following statement.

During (Tuesday’s) lunch hour, a skirmish broke out between two groups of inmates. Preliminary indications suggest that the two groups were arguing over a basketball game played the previous night. An investigation into the disturbance is ongoing.

Immediate response by onsite staff ensured that order was restored. One inmate was treated at the facility for a head injury, and was later sent via medical helicopter to a local hospital for precautionary treatment. No life-threatening injuries were suffered by inmates or staff.

As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, the facility was on lockdown.
