DUBOIS — Clearfield’s Boy’s and Girl’s Swimming team swept DuBois last night in dual meet competition.
The boy’s won by a score of 116.5-30.5, while the girl’s final read111-56. The boys upped their record to 8-1, while the girls improved to 6-3 on the season.
“In all fairness to DuBois we swam well,” said head swimming coach Jackie Morrison. “We moved people around to see where we want them with championships coming up. However, DuBois was really sick both boys and girls. They were missing a few kids and their best swimmer was out. We did what we could to help each other out and make it a competitive meet for both teams.”
In the boy’s dual, Shay Flanagan and Brandon Boyer were double winners for the Bisons.
Flanagan won both the open 200 free and open 100 backstroke, while Boyer took the open 50 free and open100 fly.
Also winning events were Chris Bodle (open 200 IM), Mark Krchnak (open 100 free), Brady Mulhollem (open 500 free) and Logan Shirey (open 100 breaststroke).
Clearly, the Bisons had depth in their performances with six swimmers finishing second, including Mulhollem (open 200 free), John Bodle (open 200 IM and open 100 fly), Justin DeCasper (open 50 free), Shirey (open 100 free), Kraig Peterson (open 500 free), and Chris Bodle (open 100 backstroke).
Third place winners were Peterson (open 200 IM), Kurtis Graham (open 50 and 100 free) and DeCasper (open 100 breaststroke).
Jason Parks tied for third in the open 200 free.
“Parks, Renaud, Graham are names you don’t hear,” said Morrison, adding, “Nishida , Coates – these are my rookies. You don’t hear their names much because they’re not in the top three. However, the points from their fourth and fifth place finishes are important. They all swam really well for us.”
In team events, the boys took both the open 200 medley and free relays. The teams went exhibition in the 400 free relay, but DuBois had no one to compete in the event.
On the girl‘s side, Clearfield had two double winners in Shelbie King and Chelsey Dufour.
King won both the open 200 IM and open 100 fly, while Dufour took the open 50 and 100 free.
“Shelbie King had a great night,” said Morrison. “She swam very well in both the 200 IM and the 100 fly. Actually, all my IM girls [King, Marsh and White] swam well.”
Other individual winners were Carolyn Shurer (open 200 free), Branda Smeltzer (open 500 free) and Marisa Howell (open 100 backstroke).
Morrison was impressed by Smeltzer’s performance when she said, “Branda Smeltzer won the 500 free and was second in the 200 free. Both times were personal bests. She swam extremely well tonight.”
Six other girls posted second place finishes, including Smeltzer (open 200 free), Jaclyn Marsh (open 200 IM), Howell (open 100 fly), Shurer (open 100 free), Allison White (open 500 free) and Tessa Tkacik (open 100 breaststroke).
White (open 200 IM), Brandie Centi (open 50 and 100 free), Krista Massimino (open 100 backstroke) and Marsh (open 100 breaststroke) took third.
In team events, the girls took both the open 200 medley and free relays, while swimming exhibition in the 400 free. As a result, DuBois received the team points for that event.
Neither team competed in diving due to a broken board at the DuBois Area High School.
Clearfield is back in action Thursday night when the Bisons host Brookville. The meet is set for 6 p.m.
