DUBOIS – According to Sandy Township Hose Company 1, approximately 90 area firefighters battled the fire at Quality Inn along state Route 255 in DuBois on Tuesday.
Sandy Township units responded to an alarm at 9:22 a.m. When they arrived, Sandy Township Police and hotel employees were trying to extinguish a fire that started in the men’s restroom on the mail floor off of the lobby area.
According to Adrian Fire Chief Steve Dunlap, the fire spread to the ceiling and then traveled between the ceiling and roof traveling down the building.
Oklahoma Fire Chief Jim Mauthe said there were approximately 14 guest rooms occupied and the building was evacuated without any injuries. The fire was contained to the lobby, hallway, conference and restroom areas. Other areas sustained smoke damage.
Other units responding to the fire or on stand-by were from Brockway, the City of DuBois, Brady, Sykesville, Falls Creek, Rockton, Clearfield, Penfield and Reynoldsville. DuSan Ambulance and the DuBois Chapter of the American Red Cross also responded tot he scene.
A fire marshal was on-scene Tuesday afternoon to determine the cause of the fire. That information has not yet been released. A damage estimate was also unavailable.
It was reported that one firefighter received a minor injury.
The Quality Inn, owned by Javaid Tarar of Treasure Lake, will be closed until further notice.
