Curwensville Cagers Defeat Ridgway 52-46

RIDGWAY — The Curwensville Area High School boys basketball team erased a 21-16 halftime deficit in the third quarter and outscored Ridgway 22-17 in the final period for a hard-earned 52-46 Allegheny Mountain League South Division win Wednesday night.

Brandon McDonald scored 14 points for the Golden Tide, which solidified its grip on second place in the division at 3-2 and hiked its record to 7-4 for the season.

The Elkers, coming off a 31-21 AML-South victory over Brockway Monday, didn\’t look like a 1-10 team against the Golden Tide, holding the visitors to four points in the final 4:48 of the first quarter while grabbing a 14-11 lead. Curwensville\’s offensive troubles continued in the second period, but Ridgway was able to add only two points to its lead.

Coach Matt Wassil\’s Golden Tide bounced back in the final 16 minutes and played with the lead most of the way after finally pulling in front. The Elkers did manage to draw even at 34-34 with 5:20 left before succumbing.

Philip Michaels added eight points for the Golden Tide, while Kevin Close led the Elkers with 12.

Curwensville will be at home against Sheffield Friday.
