ARLINGTON, Texas — After wrestling at 133 pounds for the first two months of his freshman season at Army, Matt Kyler of Clearfield moved up to 141 Saturday, winning two matches and losing two as the Cadets finished 2-2 in the 10th annual Lone Star Duals hosted by Texas-Arlington.
Kyler major decisioned Justin Morrill, 11-1, in the Cadets\’ opening match, a 41-6 rout of Utah Valley State.
His next opponent was Oklahoma State\’s Nathan Morgan, the third-ranked 141-pounder in the country. Morgan edged Kyler 5-3 as the fourth-ranked Cowboys defeated the Black Knights 32-7.
Kyler rebounded with the lone fall in Army\’s forfeit-aided 43-3 win against New Mexico Highland. He flattened Ross Montou in 1:39.
Against 15th-ranked Wisconsin, Kyler lost a 3-1 decision to Kyle Ruschell. Army was beaten 35-3 to fall to 5-3 for the season.
Black Knight coach Chuck Barbee was pleased with his team\’s effort.
\”Overall, I thought our guys wrestled very and with great spirit all day,\” he said. \”Matthew Kyler showed good determination wrestling at 141 pounds for the first time ever, and William Simpson came back into the lineup at 133 pounds and really fought hard.
Kyler is 4-3 in duals and 16-6 overall, with four falls and five major decisions.

JOHNSTOWN — Clearfield Area High School graduate Kyle Keane, redshirt freshman at Pitt-Johnstown, finished 2-2 in the 74th Wilkes Open on Dec. 28 and is 7-3 for the season.
He opened with an 18-1 technical fall against Matt Rothstein of Maryland before losing 7-3 to eventual champion Jared King of Oklahoma in the quarterfinals.
Then, he pinned Josh Evans of Millersville in 1:59 before being pinned in 2:42 by Gerald Brown (unattached) of York.
Keane is 0-1 in duals, dropping a 3-2 decision to Clarion freshman Mario Morelli of DuBois on a third period reversal and riding time in mid-December.
