Clearfield Bison Baseball Alumni Game Set For Saturday

CLEARFIELD — More than 60 former Clearfield Area High School baseball players have committed to play — or make an appearance at least — in the Second Annual Bison Baseball Alumni Game at the Lawrence Park Rec Field Saturday afternoon.

Created last year as a fundraiser for the Clearfield Baseball Association, the event was an immediate hit, as a like number of former Bison players competed in two games, the opener for \”old-timers\” and the nightcap for \”youngsters,\” that produced many memories, albeit some bordering on the hilarious.
The games featured three father-son combinations, two sets of brothers and some outstanding performances on a sunny but chilly and windy day, and the ensuing dinner and fellowship guaranteed an annual reunion had been established.
The CBA, which is the high school program\’s booster organization, tweaked the schedule a bit this year, hoping to issue as many Bison Baseball Caps and Bison Alumni Game Shirts as possible on Friday during batting practice set for 6 p.m. at the Lawrence Rec Park Field or the draft session which will follow at the former Adventure Park on Carbine Mine Road.
On Saturday, players are asked to report by 11:30 a.m. A group picture is planned as soon as all have received caps and shirts and have been assigned to teams. If the turnout is as big as expected, pending weather conditions, the first of two games will begin at noon. The second game will follow immediately. The post-game festivities at Adventure Park will start about 30 to 60 minutes after the final out and will include announcements of the Most Valuable Player Award and Golden Glove Award for each team.
The concession stand will be in operation during Saturday at the Lawrence Park Rec Field.
Members of the CBA\’s alumni game committee are chairman Donnie Shimmel, CBA president Jeff Kavelak, Sid Lansberry, Brian Barr and Logan Cramer III. Lansberry is head coach of the CAHS team, while Shimmel and Barr are his assistants.
