McMillen is lone new winner at Hummingbird Speedway

Reynoldsville (August 12)—Bill McMillen of St. Marys ended a season long dry spell as he drove his car to victory lane Saturday evening at Hummingbird Speedway. Other winners on Northrop Trucking night included Jason Witherite of Luthersburg, Bob Connor and Mark Segerberg of DuBois, and Matt Heindl of St. Marys. Aaron Henry and McMillen made up the starting front row of the 15-lap IC Light Beer four-cylinder feature.

McMillen jumped into the early lead and endured two early cautions with Henry, Brandon Weidow, George Bailey, and Kyle Parson battling close for second. McMillen stretched his lead with Bailey trying to close the gap midway through. Lap 12 saw a red flag period as Rob Molnar was hit from behind on the front stretch and sent into the turn one fence. Emergency personnel had to remove Molnar from his car and he was transported to the hospital for observation.

On the restart, McMillen pulled away with Don Henry getting by Bailey late for second. McMillen was strong as he took the win, and then dedicated the win to long time racer, Lou Pesce who passed away earlier in the week. Bailey, Parson, and Weidow won the heats.

The 20-lap Kronik Energy Drink street stock feature was next on the speedway with Connor and Levi Ardery showing the way. After a complete restart, Connor grabbed the lead with Fuzzy Fields, Dan Smeal, Ardery, and Gary Little keeping things close. Lap 3 saw a hard crash in turn 4 involving Brandon Connor, Dave Green, and Joe Kot. No one was hurt, but all had to pit for the evening. A number of minor cautions slowed the middle stages of the race with Connor still holding Fields at bay. Connor was able to get some breathing room late as Fields and Little battled side by side for a number of laps. Connor then cruised to his fourth victory of the season. Connor, Smeal, and Fields copped the heats.

The 25-lap Brookville Wood Products limited late model feature was next on the racing surface with Shawn Mogle and Bernie Whiteford leading the way. Mogle took the lead, and held it for four laps before giving way to Whiteford after a lap four caution period. Whiteford stretched out his lead as Witherite used the high groove to make the pass of Mogle, Chris Farrell, and Luke Hoffner by the midway mark. Witherite got the break he needed as a caution flew on lap 13 for a spinning John Chesnalavich, Jr. Witherite hounded the rear deck lid of Whiteford for a number of laps before he made the pass on the inside of the leader on lap 17. Witherite was able to shake Whiteford late as he went on to take his second win of the season. Witherite, Hoffner, and Dave Shagla, Jr. won the heats.

Bill Huntington and Heindl led the field of Miller Brothers Furniture/By The Room Furniture pure stocks trackside
for their 15-lap main. Heindl grabbed the early lead and started to pull away midway into the race with Huntington, Paul Kot, Toby Saline, and Jason Bainey trying to close the gap. A late race caution brought the field back to Heindl, but Heindl wouldn’t be denied as he went on to take his second win of the year, and first since opening night. Heindl and Brian Rhed won the preliminaries.

The front wheel drive four-cylinders closed the evening’s program with Michael Stoltz and Be Smith starting on the front row of the 15-lap feature. After a complete restart and two minor cautions, Segerberg took the lead with the field starting to spread itself. Segerberg maintained his lead halfway through with Smith, Jimmy Haag, John Spellen, and Chuck Erskine rounding out the top five. Segerberg got a late race challenge by Jerry Walls, but was able to hold him off as he took his second checkered flag of the season. Segerberg, Smith, Stoltz, and Haag won the heats.
