Krape and Hess get first wins of 2006 at Gamber\’s

CLEARFIELD, PA – It was the Hugh Martell Memorial on Sunday Night as Gamblers Raceway Park returned to action after a two week hiatus with Tim Krape of Bellefonte and Kirk Hess of Woodland picking up their first features of the season in the pure stocks and Sid?s Subs Pure Stocks respectively.

Repeat winners included Bobby Stocks of Milton in the late models, Mark Frankhouser of Philipsburg in the small block modifieds, Gary Little of Clearfield in the street stocks and Mark Hummel of Osceola Mills in the four cylinders.

Stokes started the late model feature on the front row and quickly took the lead with Cody Schultz in second and Luke Hoffner in third. Stokes was setting a torrid pace with Schultz trying desperately to get the lead, but on lap seven Hoffner took second from Schultz. Hoffner started to reel in Stocks, but catching the leader is easier than passing him, and Hoffner could not get by the #27 as Stokes went on to get his second win of the season. Hoffner was second ahead of Schultz, Jim Parson, Jr. and Shawn ?Sheetz? McGarvey. Heat wins went to Luke Hoffner and Bobby Stokes.

Jared Orwick darted into the lead at the start of the modified feature with Mark Frankhouser in second and Kevin Dickson third. Orwick lost the lead to Frankhouser on lap four when Frankhouser dove under him in the third turn. Orwick then went out of the race with a smoking engine. That gave second to Bob Garvey who took over where Orwick left off hounding the leader. While that race was taking place third place was anyone\’s race with new comer George Hilderbrand, Derek Rodkey, Dickson, Mike Stine and Fay Lumadue jockeying for the position. When the race was over the top five were Frankhouser, Garvey, Stine, Rodkey and Dickson. Heat wins went to Derek Rodkey and Mark Frankhouser.

The street stock feature saw Tom Williams take the initial lead with Scott Good in second. The front two were bumper-to-bumper and door-to-door several times, before Good went to the lead with an inside pass going into the third turn. He was leading for three laps before Williams fought back and regained the lead with a move off the second turn. This time Gary Little followed Williams past Good and by lap 10 Little had taken the lead with a pass under Williams off turn four. Once in the lead Little had to hold off first Denny Curry then Dan Smeal for the win. The top five were Little, Smeal, Curry, Ray Billotte and Emory Rinehart Jr. Heat wins went to Rick Hemphill and Gary Little.

The pure stocks hit the track with Tim Krape taking the initial lead and taking the win. The race was halted early on when a crash sent Jeff Mease to the ambulance for a check up. He was ok. Krape led the rest of the way but acquire a miss in the engine on the white flag, but he held on for the win. Scott Dorman was second with Jason Peters, Martin Hubler and Craig Bainey completing the top five. Jason Peters won the heat.

The four cylinder feature Mark Hummel led the race from flag to flag and held off a late race charge from Bill McMillen Sr. for the win. McMillen, Adam Nixon, Nick Erskine and David Weidow completed the top five. Bill McMillen won the heat.

Kirk Hess won the four cylinder wild card feature for the first time this season by holding off three time winner Kevin Clark. Mike Williams, Scott Flory and George Bailey completed the top five. Heat wins went to #27 and Kirk Hess.
