Clearfield Legion Forces Deciding Game

Punxsutawney — Trey Wallace turned in what Coach Lansberry called \”a Herculean effort\” in leading the Clearfield Chiefs to a major upset over the homestanding Punxsutawney Legion, 16-9.

It would be hard to argue with that statement. All Wallace did was earn his 3rd win in 6 days by pitching 7 2/3 innings, and rope 4 doubles, plating 4 runs.

The Chiefs got out to an early 5-1 lead that Punxsuyawney erased at the end of 3 innings.

Clearfield then scored 2 runs in the 4th to take a lead that they would never relinquish. With 2 outs, Shane Davis singled in Adam Jury with the go-ahead run. Wallace then laced one of his 4 doubles to score Davis.

With the score only 7-5, Clearfield blew it open with a 7 run outburst in the 5th.

Offensive leaders, other than Wallace, included James Zimmerman who had 3 hits and Brandon Evans and Davis, who had 2 hits a piece.

The Chiefs win sets the stage for a winner-take-all game on Friday night in Punxsutawney at 5:30. The winner will be the Jefferson County League Champions and get to represent the league at the Region 7 Tournament in Indiana on Monday, July 24th.
