Clearfield Legion \’Slams\’ Dubois

Clearfield — Facing elimination from the Jefferson County League playoffs, the Clearfield Chiefs were looking for a big game from someone. They got it from Kyle Kline. Kline\’s grand slam in the top of the 7th inning broke open a tight ball game, taking the heart out of Dubois and effectively ending their season.

Dubois was actually leading early on, 6-4 after 3 innings, after putting a 5 spot on the Chiefs in the 3rd. Clearfield showed their character with their season on the line by taking a 9-6 lead, setting up Kline\’s heroics in the 7th. The 2-out slam made it 13-6, and the route was on. The final ended up 20-7.

James Zimmerman also had a grand slam in the blow out. Kline ended up with 7 RBIs on a career day.

Max Condon started for Clearfield and was replaced by Trey Wallace in the sixth with the score tied at 6. Wallace picked up his second win of the post season.

Clearfield now faces the unenviable task of having to beat the #1 seed Punxsutawney twice to win the Jefferson County League. Punxsy has already beaten the Chiefs once this post season, 14-4.

The first game is set for 5:30 on Thursday at Kuntz Field in Punxsutawney. If Clearfield can win Thursday, it would force an elimination game on Friday.
