Wallace Leads Clearfield Legion to Playoff Victory

Dubois – The Clearfield Chiefs, led by the pitching and hitting of lefty Trey Wallace, knocked off the second seeded Dubois Legion in playoff action Saturday evening. Wallace pitched the full 9 innings and had 3 extra-base hits, including the game-winning homerun!

The two teams battled back and forth throughout the game that was tied 4-4 after 7 innings. Wallace settled down after giving up 4 runs, only 2 of which were earned, through 5 innings by holding Dubois scoreless over the last 4 innings.

With the score tied 4-4 entering the top of the 9th, Clearfield\’s bats got hot at the right time. After an out, Max Condon reached on a single. Then the game\’s most valuable player, Trey Wallace, blasted a 2-run homerun well over the 355-ft sign in straight away center field. Up 6-4, Clearfield added an insurance run when Kyle Kline, who had walked, scored on a pinch hit RBI ground out by Alex Billotte.

The Chiefs were also led offensively by Max Condon and Shane Davis\’ three for four performances.

Wallace\’s final stats in the complete game victory included 12 strikeouts and only 6 hits allowed.

The Chiefs will hit the road again on Sunday when they travel to Kuntz Field to take on the number one seeded Punxsutawney Legion in a game scheduled for 2:00 PM. Punxsutawney beat Brookville 5-2 in their opening playoff game on Saturday.

The winner will be in the championship finals Thursday. The loser will play the winner of the Dubois – Brookville game on Tuesday night.
