First Day of Tourney Baseball at Lawrence Park Field

CLEARFIELD — Dingers of Clearfield solidified its grip on second place in the Continental Collegiate Baseball League with a pair of wins Saturday at the Lawrence Township Recreation Park, coming from beind to defeat Coudersport 6-4 and Lewistown 12-5 for a 7-1 record.

        Second baseman Scott Hugney led the way with three hits in each game and drove in six runs.
        Against Coudersport, Cory Bailor snapped a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning with a single that plated Hugney. Todd Schickling came around to score when the ball was misplayed in the outfield. Then Bailor hustled home on a wild pitch, sliding around pitcher Steve Brink\’s tag.
        Travis McDonald held the Loggers to four hits over six innings to earn the win, striking out five and walking eight. Mike Davidson worked the seventh to notch the save, striking out two Loggers while allowing one walk and one hit.
        Against Lewistown, Dingers opened a 6-1 lead on Davidson\’s RBI-double in the first, Matt Shiner\’s run-scoring single and Hugney\’s two-run double in the second and Hugney\’s home run in the fourth, but the visitors made it close with four runs in the fifth.
        Dinger\’s answered with a six-run salvo highlighted by Hugney\’s two-run single.
        Schickling pitched a complete game for the victory.
        Dingers will play two more games Sunday, a 12:30 showdown against undefeated State College with first place on the line and a 3 o\’clock start against Kersey.
