CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man is charged with the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl.
Corbin J. Derbeque, 18, is charged by Clearfield Regional police with felony sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and corruption of minors as well as misdemeanor indecent assault without consent.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the victim on Oct. 28 met up with Derbeque outside a Clearfield Borough residence “for a hug and kiss” as she “felt bad” for him.
She said initially their encounter was consensual, but then Derbeque started kissing and touching her and she didn’t want to proceed any further than that.
But, because she “froze up,” she didn’t say anything to Derbeque, and Derbeque allegedly proceeded to remove her clothing and sexually assaulted her.
Afterwards, the victim said Derbeque left because he was afraid the neighbor would call the cops. He also tried to give her a hug and kiss, but she was visibly upset and didn’t reciprocate.
As part of the investigation, the victim permitted police to review Facebook messages she’d exchanged with Derbeque prior to the alleged assault. Their social media exchange corroborated her report.
There were also several messages she’d sent following the incident, saying she didn’t want to do it and that she only did it out of fear. Derbeque apologized to the victim, saying it wouldn’t happen again.
In a police interview Oct. 29, Derbeque admitted to having met up with the victim the day before at her boyfriend’s request, as well as to having a previous sexual encounter with her that was consensual.
The affidavit noted how police found it suspicious that Derbeque just volunteered this information, adding how he appeared nervous and how his account of what happened changed several times.
When confronted about his continuous lying, Derbeque commented that he was “trying to get into less trouble.”
Eventually he allegedly admitted to having pressured the victim into having sex and then repeatedly ignoring the visible signs that she didn’t want to have sex with him.
Derbeque waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday during centralized court. Bail remains set at $100,000, monetary.
