Explore Jefferson: Megan’s Law Offenders Targeted in Recent Scam

INDIANA, Pa. – Troopers have been made aware of a scam targeting individuals who are registered as a Pennsylvania Megan’s Law offender.

Recently, several individuals who are registered as a Pennsylvania Megan’s Law offender reported to the Troop A, Ebensburg and Indiana stations that they were contacted via phone by someone who claimed to be with the Pennsylvania State Police and were asked to send money regarding their Megan’s Law registration.

In some instances, the scammer(s) attempted to solicit money, including cryptocurrency, from the individual to have changes made to the individual’s Megan’s Law registration requirements or to avoid further police action regarding their registration requirements.

As always, Megan’s Law offenders with questions about their registration status should contact the Pennsylvania State Police Megan’s Law Section directly at 1-866-771-3170.

Additionally, the Pennsylvania State Police does not solicit funds and any such requests should be deemed fraudulent.
