Workforce Solutions for North Central PA Awarded Funding to Connect Students K-12 with Local Employers

Workforce Solutions for North Central PA, the Workforce Development Board serving Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean and Potter counties, applied for and was awarded funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry’s Business Education Partnership (BEP) for Program Year 2024.

This initiative aims to strengthen collaboration among educators, students, parents and local employers, addressing career and education awareness in our region.

“With the ongoing challenges of labor shortages and rising student loan debt, it’s essential for educators and employers to work together,” said Pam Streich, executive director, Workforce Solutions.

“This partnership ensures that our youth are informed about high-priority or in demand occupations and industries in our area, viable alternatives to a four-year degree and career pathways that encourage them to live and work here.

“For those who pursue higher education elsewhere, we aim to equip them with knowledge about our local employers, encouraging their return to the region for family-sustaining employment.”

To achieve these goals, Workforce Solutions implements a range of activities aligned with the Pennsylvania Career Education and Work Standards (CEW), focusing on four key areas: career awareness and preparation, career acquisition, career retention and advancement and entrepreneurship.

Its dedicated staff and partners will enhance school performance by engaging students through various initiatives, including company tours, industry days, career exploration camps, classroom presentations, financial reality fairs, mock interviews and connections to community resources.

In addition to its staff in Clearfield and Jefferson counties, Workforce Solutions partners with the Community Education Center for Elk and Cameron counties and the Potter Education Council (serving McKean and Potter) counties to ensure the entire region is served.
