Penn Highlands Healthcare to Offer Cataract Screening

Ophthalmic cataract disease in a woman.

CLEARFIELD – Eyesight is often taken for granted until a problem arises.

As people age, they often develop a cataract in one or both of their eyes. A cataract forms when the lens or part of the lens inside the eye becomes “cloudy” and no longer allows the proper amount of light to pass through that lens.

Cataracts are considered a normal symptom of the aging process and typically affect people age 60 and older. If left untreated, a cataract can cause blindness, but for the vast majority of people it is a condition that is easily corrected.

Penn Highlands Healthcare is sponsoring a free Cataract Screening Event on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Penn Highlands Eye Center in Clearfield.

The center is located in Suite 150 in the Medical Arts Building at 807 Turnpike Ave.

Following an eye-care presentation from Ryan Bisbey, MD, a board-certified ophthalmologist, optometrists Jessica R. Gruver, OD, and Morgon Von Schmidt, OD, will conduct cataract screenings. People who are diagnosed with cataracts will be advised of their treatment options.

Refreshments will be served.

Space is limited. To register visit, www.phhealthcare.org/cataractscreening.
