DuBois City Addresses Roadway Issues

DUBOIS – DuBois City officials on Monday night responded to complaints over the barriers on Long Avenue.

According to City Mayor Pat Reasinger, the bridge is deteriorating there and cannot remain open as it was per the state Department of Transportation requirements.

Initially Reasinger said their alternative was closure of the Long Avenue Bridge; however, he ultimately indicated it was to vastly reduce its weight limit.

City/Township Manager Shawn Arbaugh did indicate that the bridge will be repaired, adding that it is too late in the year to have that work done now.

Bids will be sought at the start of next year with construction likely occurring in the spring, with April or May as a possible completion timeframe.

It was also noted that the stoplight at Brady Street and West Park Avenue, across from Sheetz, is being investigated for structural integrity after being struck by an over-sized load vehicle.

Scale Solar System

A group of area school students presented Monday night on the installation of a scale model of the solar system at the DuBois City Park and walkway.

The project, as presented, would be around 1.97 miles long, and if completed, will unite students with many interests.

Details related to placement and scaling must still be explored and determined.

Students also have plans to have Web site content, which would be accessible by QR codes plaques at each of the planets.

Trick or Treat Hours

Trick-or-treat will keep the same hours as in previous years, being held on Halloween night, Oct. 31, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
