DUBOIS – Three businesses are closer to becoming a reality for the DuBois area.

During Monday night’s Sandy Township meeting, Starbucks Coffee Company, Treasure Lake Ski Lodge and 7 Brew saw their land development plans receive approval.

Of those, two will be located near The Commons.

It was noted that Starbucks will have a 2,500-square foot restaurant space that will be accessible from Midway Drive. Plans are for it to be constructed at the currently vacant lot behind Rite Aid along Commons Drive.

7 Brew will make its home at the former Long John Silver’s building, though the existing building will be demolished. It will have a two-lane drive-thru with 23 parking stalls.

The Treasure Lake Ski Lodge land development plan was approved after a previously-presented plan was rejected.

The reason for the rejection was due to its lacking of required minimum parking spaces for the property.

The new plan includes a smaller building and adequate parking.

Infrastructure Projects

Also, on Monday night, the township reported that progress continues to be made on its Platt Road, Kiwanis Trail and Industrial Drive projects.

Further, the Platt Road sewer project is on track to reach a 90-percent connection rate by the Oct. 1 deadline.

Most mobile homes and other structures have been connected, but it was noted that people who have extenuating circumstances can apply in writing for an extension through the end of the year.

Sandy Township plans to put this year’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds towards repayment of the Section 108 loan used to cover costs related to the Platt Road project.

The supervisors indicated that this will leave $500,000 to $560,000 left on the loan.

The Kiwanis Trail Phase 2 project also continues with line installation.

Clean-up Events

Sandy Township will be hosting a tire cleanup and collection Sept. 30, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The township will accept four tires per resident, which would fit on a car or light truck.

The township will also be hosting a confidential paper shredding event on Oct. 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The township will accept one banker’s box per resident.
