Explore Jefferson: Area Man Sentenced to State Prison for Sexual Assault of Minor

INDIANA COUNTY, Pa. — District Attorney Robert Manzi announced that an area man was sentenced to state prison for up to thirteen years.

Gregory Jones, 39 of Blairsville, was sentenced to serve a cumulative sentence of no less than five years and no more than ten years in a state correctional institution, along with consecutive probation. The defendant must undergo treatment as a sexual offender while incarcerated and must register with Megan’s Law for the rest of his life. Jones entered a guilty plea for charges related to a sexual assault of a minor, including:

  1. Involuntary Deviant Sexual Intercourse, victim less than 16 years old, a first-degree felony;
  2. Statutory Sexual Assault, defendant 11 years older than minor victim, a first-degree felony;
  3. Corruption of Minors, a third-degree felony;
  4. Aggravated Indecent Assault, victim less than 16 years old, a second-degree felony;
  5. Indecent Assault of a victim less than 16 years old, a second-degree misdemeanor.The victim in this matter reported that over a course of time while the victim was a minor, the defendant was in a relationship with her mother. Without the mother’s knowledge, the defendant sexually assaulted the victim over the course of years from 2017 until 2020.

    The victim was able to provide evidence to law enforcement which included messaging between the victim and defendant that corroborated the allegations.

    “The victim in this matter was incredibly brave to come forward and face this defendant who assaulted the victim while a minor. I hope that this outcome helps to start the healing process for the victim as they move forward in a positive way in their life,” said Manzi. “I also want to thank the members of the Pennsylvania State Police, Indiana Barracks who thoroughly investigated this manner and put together an incredibly strong case against this convicted sex offender.”
