Curwensville Suffers Season Opening Loss to Meyersdale

CURWENSVILLE — Despite holding a 3-0 lead after the opening quarter and only being down by one possession, 14-6, at the half the host Curwensville Golden Tide were shut out in the second half and suffered a 34-6 season opening loss to the visiting Meyersdale Red Raiders.

Twenty-four and 33 yard first half field goals by Everett Addleman were the lone scores for the Tide.

Tide quarterback Tyler Dunn was 10 of 13 for 90 yards, with one interception, for the game, with Lincoln Hoyt gathering in four of those receptions for 33 yards, and Cael Butler hauled in three catches for 51 yards.

Sammy Gustafson led the ground attack with 59 yards on 13 carries.

The Red Raider combination of Lance Jones to Spencer Whitfield was just too much for the Tide to handle. Jones was 17 of 19 for 276 yards and three touchdowns, all three to Whitfield who finished with eight catches for 185 yards. Whitfield also added a fourth touchdown on the ground while rushing for 38 yards.

The other Red Raider TD was a run by Cooper Porter.
