Programs Planned at Parker Dam

PENFIELD – Multiple upcoming programs have been planned at Parker Dam State Park.

Friday, Aug. 23

Things Naturalists Do

8:30 p.m.—Campground Amphitheater

Catch Crayfish, pet bees, mess with moths.  All that and more.  Learn some of the quirky things that people like me do to entertain themselves.

Saturday, Aug. 24

Backyard Sugaring

12:30 p.m.—Sugar Shack

Have you ever wanted to make maple syrup at home? Now is not the time of year to do it but it is the time of year to start learning how. Come out and learn what you need to know to get started sugaring. We will be covering from basic collection methods and how to ID your maples to how to boil your sap on a small scale.

Aquatic Embodiment

3 p.m.—Beach

Learn about some of the creatures that live in and around the lake—by acting out their movements and behaviors.  Dress to be inthe water.

Forests & Fungi

8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater

Much is being brought to light about how our forests depend on fungi, and how fungi depend on forests.  Learn about some of these interactions during this program, and just how important fungi are to our own survival.

Sunday, Aug. 25

Tea & Talk

7 p.m.—Beach House Steps

Bring your own cup to sample some sweet fern/mountain mint tea grown right here in the park.  Talk is, as always, whatever you want to talk about concerning the park.  Come prepared with a topic or three—otherwise, Fibonacci.

You can keep up on what is happening at the park by liking “Parker Dam State Park” on Facebook; and, you can find more information about state park programs and special events by logging on to the Bureau of State Parks Web site at www.visitPAparks.com, and clicking on “Events Calendar.”
