Sandy Twp. Names New Public Works Director

DUBOIS – The Sandy Township Board of Supervisors on Monday night voted to approve Michael Hale as the new township public works director.

Hale has more than five years of experience with Dave Roman Excavating. His salary will be $75,000 annually.

He was previously approved by the City of DuBois.

Township/City Manager Shawn Arbaugh also notified the supervisors that former township engineer Mike Haynes is now the city engineer.

Sandy Township will begin advertising for an “engineering technician” position.  This will cover the responsibilities of the code enforcement and planner position that the township has been having trouble filling.

The township is requiring a two-year or higher degree in engineering planning services.  The individual will help with planning and inspections.

The position will also need Consolidtion Joint Board approval.

Fire Hydrants

Sandy Township will be implementing a uniform fire hydrant use policy for the township’s fire departments.  This is so the township has a standardized and fair system of giving permission to the various departments.

Hydrants are used by the township fire departments for training, pool filling, street cleaning and so forth.

Previously permission was often granted, but there was no standard to determine when to give approval and how much water usage to allow.

The policy, created by Sandy Township Fire Chief Jason Runyon, “outside of training,” will limit each department to 50,000 gallons/year.
