PENFIELD – Multiple upcoming programs are planned at Parker Dam State Park, beginning July 10.

Wednesday, July 10

Frisbee Golf—Planets

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Start at Park Office

Our temporary Frisbee (not Disc) Golf nine-hole course will be available beginning at 10 a.m.  Stop in the park office to get your score cards and to borrow a Frisbee.  Each tee has a bit of information about the planets in our solar system, so you can learn as you play through.

Friday, July 12

Nature Nut—Dragonflies

8:30 p.m.—Campground Amphitheater

Join us for an interesting video—Nature Nut—about dragonflies.  John Acorn is your host for this quirky and informative video presentation.  “Flutter to the left; flutter to the right.”

Saturday, July 13

Clean Water Kayaking 

10:30 a.m.—Beach House

Have you ever wondered what life uses Parker Lake?  Have you ever noticed fishing line or litter in the lake while out on the lake?  If you said yes to either of these please join us for a short kayak tour of the lake exploring the plant life and wildlife that can be found in and around Parker Lake. After our short tour join us in cleaning up the lake.  Experience kayaking is not needed however, it is preferred. Age limitation for this event will be 12 years of age unless accompanied in a tandem kayak with a guardian.  For those needing to use park kayaks please contact the park office at (814) 765-0630 to register.

E-Parachute Games

2:30 p.m.—Beach House Area

Meet by the Beach House at the big parachute to play some parachute games with an environmental twist.  All ages welcome.

Dragons & Damsels Hunt

4 p.m.—starts at Beach House

Join the park naturalist on this excursion to find the park’s dragons and damsels—flies, that is.  Learn about dragonflies and damselflies, where they live, their life cycle and more.

Dragonflies and Damselflies

8:30 p.m.—Campground Amphitheater

Learn about some of the dragonflies that live here in the park and how to identify some of the common ones.  Get a first-hand look at dragonfly exuvia and learn where to find them.

Sunday, July 14

Tea & Talk

7 p.m. – Beach House Steps

Bring your own cup to sample some sweet fern/mountain mint tea grown right here in the park.  Talk is, as always, whatever you want to talk about concerning the park.  Come prepared with a topic or three, otherwise – Fibonacci.
