Man Seriously Injured After Crashing Vehicle Into Tractor-Trailer That Failed to Stop at Stop Sign in Clearfield County

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) — Police say a driver was seriously injured after crashing his vehicle into a tractor-trailer in Clearfield County.

The crash occurred around 8:17 a.m. on Monday, June 17, at the intersection of SR 53 (Glen Hope Boulevard) and State Route 729 (Tyrone Pike) in Glen Hope Borough, Clearfield County, according to Clearfield-based State Police.

Police say 27-year-old Garrett M. Knapp, of Saxton, was traveling west on Route 729 and failed to stop his 1997 Freightliner FLD120 at the stop sign, continuing through the intersection.

Knapp’s tractor-trailer was then struck by a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt operated by 28-year-old Joseph S. Emel, of Lock Haven, which was traveling north on Route 53.

Emel was transported to UPMC Altoona by Madera Volunteer Ambulance Service for suspected serious injuries.

Knapp was not injured.

Both drivers were using a seat belt.

Police were assisted at the scene by Irvona Fire Company, Madera Fire Co., PennDOT and Discount Auto Towing.

According to police, Knapp was charged with a traffic violation.
