Programs Planned at Parker Dam

PENFIELD – Multiple programs have been planned at Parker Dam State Park, beginning Friday June 7.

Friday, June 7 

Kids Fly Fishing

5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. 

For Kids 12-16 years old.  Come out and learn some of the basics of fly fishing.  Rods and materials needed will be provided by the park.  Spaces are limited so please register by June 7 at 814-765-0630 or by e-mail with jerirvin@pa.gov.

Saturday, June 8

Souder’s Trail Hike

10 a.m. – meet in front of office

Join us for a guided hike along the park’s shortest Trail – Souder’s.  Enjoy the mixed forest habitat, Laurel Run stream, and learn some park history as well.  Wear comfortable shoes and bring water along.

 Fly Casting for Beginners

5 p.m. – 6 p.m.  – Ball Field

Have you ever wanted to learn to fly fish but were intimidated by learning how to cast?  Come join us as we go through the basics of fly casting.  This is open to all ages 12 and up.  Rods will be provided by the park.  If you need to use a park rod, please register by June 7 at 814-765-0630 or by stopping in at the office as the number of rods available are limited.

Worm Wagon

6:45 p.m. – Campground

Jeremiah and Sallee will be bringing the Worm Wagon through the campground to gather your fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, and other appropriate food for the park’s worms (vermicomposter).  

UV Night Hike

9 p.m. – meet at Park Office  

Join the park naturalist for a short hike along the lake and board walk. On this hike we will explore the park through UV light—allowing a spectrum of an unseen world to be seen in all its glory.

Sunday, June 9

E. Parachute Games

3 p.m. – Beach Area

Meet by the Beach House at the big parachute to play some parachute games with an environmental twist.  All ages welcome.

Tea & Talk

7 p.m. – Beach House Steps

Bring your own cup to sample some sweet fern/mountain mint tea grown right here in the park.  Talk is, as always, whatever you want to talk about concerning the park.  Come prepared with a topic or three.

Monday, June 10

 Birds and Coffee

9 a.m. – Beach House

Come out and enjoy a cup of bird friendly coffee and learn its importance.  Then join us for a guided bird walk.  Please bring your own cup.
