Memorial Day Weekend Programs Planned at Parker Dam

PENFIELD – Events have been planned for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend at Parker Dam State Park.

Friday, May 24

The Sounds of Spring

8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater

With the changing weather of our season the sounds that we hear from wildlife also change. Join us for a program as we explore the changing sounds of the spring season.

Saturday, May 25

Beaver Dam Trail Hike

10 a.m. – In front of Park Office

Enjoy this guided three mile hike over level terrain.  We will be exploring the varied plant life found along this trail and learning about how our forests grow with the help of an underground network.  Wear comfortable shoes and bring water along.

Night Eyes Guided Hike

8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater

After a quick talk on why eyes shine and how we see at night, join us for a hike down to the lake to see if we can view nocturnal wildlife and explore some of the adaptations that allow animals to be out at night.

Sunday, May 26

Fish For Free Day SMART Angler

2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Near small side of lake

Are you a SMART Angler? Come over to our table and see if you are.  Learn about the species of fish in our lake, some tips on how to catch them, or how to clean what you catch.

Wildlife Watching Basics

7 p.m. – Beach House Steps

Have you ever struggled to get your binoculars focused or to find a bird in your spotting scope?  Come out learn these skills and other basics of viewing wildlife. We will go on a short walk along the small side of the lake to put these skills to use.  If you have binoculars or a spotting scope you want help with please bring those along as well.
