Lady Tide Sink Blue Pirates 7-2

WILILIAMSBURG – The Curwensville softball team sparkled under the lights in a 7-2 win over Williamsburg Tuesday evening. The Lady Tide (14-4) currently stand in second place in the ICC North Division with one league game left on the schedule. That final ICC game is slated for Monday at West Branch, the top team in the North.

In Tuesday’s game, Curwensville slapped out 14 hits with eight batters hitting safely. Addison Warren and Addison Siple collected three hits each, Natalie Wischuck and Ava Hainsey added a pair of hits while Addison Butler, Ava Olosky, Sydney Simcox and Briah Peoples collected a hit each.

Siple turned in a solid game in the circle by scattering six hits while striking out nine and surrendering no free passes. Both runs contributed to her were earned.

The scoring for Curwensville started in the first inning after two outs. Three straight hits by Siple, Wischuck, and Olosky plated a 1-0 lead that didn’t change until the third inning.

The Tide added to the lead as Warren opened the third with a double. She moved to third with aggressive base running on a ground out to short. The score moved to 2-0 as Warren saw an opening to steal home.

The eventual winning run crossed the plate in the fifth inning after Warren drove a one-out triple to center. Siple helped her cause further with an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.

The Blue Pirates weren’t about to give the visitors too much breathing room as they scored twice in the sixth. Pitcher Kara Lansberry doubled to lead off the inning, and scampered home moments later on Mecenzie Calderwood’s single. Calderwood scored on a ground out to close the gap to 3-2 heading into the seventh inning.

Whatever thoughts the Pirates had of a complete comeback were quelched quickly as the Tide mounted a rally that saw 10 batters come to the plate in the seventh. Four straight hits opened the seventh with Butler starting the hit parade with a double. Singles from Warren, Siple and Wischuck, along with a wild pitch brought in two runs. A fielder’s choice off the bat of Olosky and an RBI single from Simcox plated the last two runs for the 7-2 final.

Curwensville will be idle until the showdown with West Branch on Monday and are scheduled to finish the regular season on Tuesday when they will host Redbank Valley.
