Quick No-Hits Bishop Carroll, Clearfield Wins 18-0

EBENSBURG — Clearfield Bison baseball is back on track after a long trip to Bishop Carroll where they picked up their second straight win. Bishop Carroll fell to 6-7 while Clearfield jumped to 4-6 in a game where their bats scored more runs than they have combined in the last seven games in a dominant 18-0 win.

Elijah Quick was on the bump for the Bison, while Bishop Carroll threw Mark Mento.

Quick would dominate the matchup, allowing just one base runner via a walk in his no-hit performance.

It didn’t take long for the previously struggling Bison offense to get on the board. Hayvin Bumbarger came to the plate with a couple on and a couple out, and he hit a double to center field to give Clearfield an early 2-0 lead.

Derrick Mikesell led off the next inning with a single, before advancing to second on a wild pitch then to third on a fielder’s choice. Elijah Quick helped himself with a sacrifice fly to bring in Mikesell and extend the lead to 3-0.

O’Brain Owens led off the third inning with a single, before a walk and hit batsman loaded the bases for Hunter Rumsky. He came through with a single to score a runner and keep them loaded, making it 4-0 Bison.

Derrick Mikesell did the same exact thing with a one run single to make it 5-0 still with the bases loaded. Matt Irvin flew into a fielder’s choice to lengthen the lead to 6-0. Cole Bloom would take a pitch to the body and see the lead rise to 7-0. An error by the shortstop off the bat of Anthony Lopez scored a pair and made it 9-0. Christian Welker nailed a single to keep pouring it on, 11-0. Hunter Rumsky got his second hit of the inning to score a couple, 13-0 Clearfield. After the Bison batted around, the inning finally ended.

In the top of the fourth inning Maddix Carfley picked up a single following a walk, before Cole Bloom did the same to again load the bases. A walk from Lopez put the lead at 14-0, before another error made it 15-0. Bumbarger came up with the bases loaded, and cleared them with a 3-run double, and it became 18-0 Bison!

The game would be called due to run-rule after four innings. Clearfield will look to extend the streak to three on Monday April 29 on the road against a red hot 11-2 Bald Eagle Area team.
