DUBOIS – The City of DuBois saw the end of two interim city positions Monday.
It was the first day for Shawn Arbaugh as municipal manager for both the city and Sandy Township.
Then, council voted to select its solicitor. Thomas Breth has served as interim solicitor during the city’s acceptance and review of applications.
It was noted that only two applications were received—including Breth—and Arbaugh recommended Breth be retained by council.
Council agreed, voting unanimously to select Breth as its solicitor moving forward.
Before their vote, Councilwoman Jennifer Jackson asked about the length of Breth’s term as solicitor, and if he would hold the position for a year or until consolidation.
“I serve at the pleasure of council,” said Breth, adding he would be happy to serve until consolidation. He did say he didn’t foresee long-term service due to his age and the commute time.
Funding Requests
At a previous council meeting, both DuBois Public Library and Downtown DuBois Inc. requested financial support from the city.
Both requests were considered by council Monday.
The library sought $49,000 to fulfill its matching grant for repair of the facility’s AC units, which council unanimously rejected at the recommendation of Arbaugh.
Arbaugh noted that when the library completed its grant application, it indicated it already had the matching funds.
Downtown DuBois had submitted three funding requests: $20,000 for operational costs; $10,000 for a matching grant; and $10,000 for grants to improve city facades.
Mayor Pat Reasinger pushed back against provision of funding, citing the city’s already tight budget.
Council, however, voted to provide Downtown DuBois with operational funding this year. And, if it meets matching requirements, it will also provide the first $10,000 request in 2025.
Downtown DuBois plans to approach the DuBois Redevelopment Authority for the final $10,000.
Additional funding would be dependent upon Downtown DuBois acquiring accreditation.
