Curwensville Restarts Season With 5-0 Win Over Williamsburg

CURWENSVILLE – In what felt like the season opener to Head Coach Allen Leigey, the Curwensville softball team upended Williamsburg 5-0 on Tuesday. The Lady Tide hadn’t played a game since March 26 because of uncooperating weather conditions. However, the halt in the season hasn’t dampened the Black and Gold’s record as they moved to 3-0 on the season.

“It was like starting all over on the season,” Leigey mentioned. “But I thought we came out and put a pretty good game together. We put together some hits, we got the runs we needed, and we put down a sacrifice bunt. It was a complete team win.”

While his offense continues to solidify, the defense also turned in a solid game. In the circle, Addison Siple dominated with 16 strikeouts, walking no one and allowing just three Pirate baserunners on two hits and a hit-batter.

“We made the plays that came to us in the field,” Leigey added. “But A.K. (Siple) pitched a solid game and didn’t give them much of a chance.”

Curwensville started the scoring in the third inning with two runs. With two outs in the inning, sophomore Addison Warren singled to right field. Siple followed with a hit to third base, and Warren took third when no one covered on the throw to first. Ava Hainsey drilled a hit to center that allowed both runners to score.

Natalie Wischuck led off the Lady Tide fourth inning with a single to center and moved to second on a wild pitch. After freshman Briah Peoples sacrificed Wischuck to third, the run came home on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Sydney Simcox.

In the fifth inning, Curwensville scored without a hit as Addison Butler walked in the lead-off spot. Butler stole second and advanced to score on consecutive ground outs.

The home squad finished the scoring in the sixth when Wischuck drove a triple to the right field wall. Peoples then earned the RBI on a ground out to second to set the score at 5-0.

Natalie Wischuck had two hits, including a triple in the 5-0 win

Wischuck and Warren each contributed two hits to the offensive attack that slapped out six total hits in the win. Siple has piled up 42 strikeouts in the first three games of the season while issuing four walks and scattering 10 hits.

Curwensville will travel to Brockway on Thursday and host Redbank Valley in a make-up game at 11:00 on Saturday morning.
