BROCKWAY – Local students gathered at the Brockwayville Depot Center for an engaging educational experience.
Hosted by Seneca Resources Company, “Energy Explorers” aimed to introduce students to the intricate world of energy, with a particular focus on the natural gas industry’s role in fueling our planet.
Led by passionate employee volunteers, the students delved into interactive experiments and demonstrations, gaining valuable insights into the sustainable development of natural gas and its diverse applications in daily life.
Activities included examining the porosity of various rock types using microscopes, performing water quality experiments to understand environmental impacts and exploring emissions with the use of a FLIR camera.
One highlight of the program was a comparison of gas volumes produced from horizontal versus vertical drilling methods, providing insights into industry practices and technologies.
The event aimed not only to educate students about the science behind natural gas exploration and production, but also to ignite their curiosity and passion for STEM fields.
“At Seneca, we recognize the critical importance of STEM education in shaping the future,” said Heather Huska, Advisor, Strategic Communications & Engagement at Seneca Resources.
“The Energy Explorers program not only teaches students about the sustainable development of natural gas but also underscores our commitment to empowering young minds and fostering a culture of innovation within our community.”
Twelve young learners, some of whom traveled as far as Montoursville, Pa., participated in the event, showcasing the program’s broad appeal and impact within the community.
Parents praised the initiative for its educational value and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage their children in hands-on learning experiences.
Plans are underway to expand the program to other locations, further continuing Seneca’s commitment to inspiring the next generation of innovators and industry leaders.
